Recycling Silicone Sex Toys

With Earth Day again upon us, s it’s time to talk about ways to stop making an absolute mess of the planet. Undoubtedly, since childhood you have most likely heard the phrase: reduce, reuse, recycle. Since Alien Love Co cares about the environment, today’s topic will be ways of recycling silicone sex toys.

Silicone is way less harmful to the environment than other types of rubbers. But it can still pose an environmental problem. Silicone takes a really long time to break down, and any silicone you throw away will sit in a landfill and take up space. Once cast, Silicone can’t be melted down and reused like other matierials. However, we can reuse it in other ways. This list doesn’t just apply to old sex toys; these same uses can apply to any silicone devices you plan to get rid of. Make sure to remove any plastics, electronic components, batteries, etc., before trying to repurpose the Silicone.

Reusing silicone sex toys.

Silicone is an incredibly durable material. Because of this, it has many applications throughout the home. You can slice and dice old sex toys into many different things if you’re crafty. Once you have beat the ever-living crap out of your Alien Love co stroker, you can easily find new uses for it’s remains instead of throwing it in the trash.

Feet for small appliances.

I have 3d printers, and only one of them sits on a level surface. Silicone shims, cut from old sex toys, make fantastic buffers for these and other small appliances. They are rigid enough to support weight and soft enough to deaden noise and vibration.

Door buffers.

I have several cats in my home. If you own a pet, you know how obnoxious animals can be with closed doors. To reduce the noise of your pet yanking on a door at 3 am, a thin strip of an old sex toy can be stapled or glued to the door frame. This works well to prevent noise from pets or drafts if you sleep with open windows.

Wrist rest.

When we first started Alien Love Co, we cut several sex toys in half to inspect the insides. These halves ended up on my desk. Turns out these halved strokers made great wrist rests at our computer desks.

Pin cushions.

Any sewing project usually uses a fair number of pins. A few months ago, we decided to set up an embroidery machine in our shop. Rather than spend a couple bucks on one of those tomato-looking pin cushions, we just stick all our pins in a failed prototype. Works perfectly.

Packaging materials.

If you move a lot or plan to move ever, sliced-up Silicone makes a great packing material for glass products. Half inch thick pieces can be placed between plates or other things to protect them from slamming into each other. You can stick them in an old peanut butter jar and save them between moves if you move around a lot.

There are a ton more creative ways to repurpose silicone devices around the house. You can use it to make hand tools more comfortable or integrate them into other projects. If a sex toy is in good shape, you can re-sell it. As long as it has been properly sterilized, some people don’t mind owning a used toy. Because of its high resistance to both chemicals and heat, Silicone can be run through the dishwasher with no issues. Better yet, it can be boiled without harming the material.

Recycling Silicone Sex Toys.

As has been noted, silicone cannot be converted from its solid form back into a liquid form. This poses a challenge when recycling silicone sex toys. Many different hobbies can incorporate chopped-up silicone bits as filler material. And in some cases, hobbyists can save quite a bit of money by using recycled Silicone in their work.

Filler material.

Many different types of projects use filler materials to add weight or structure to something. Chopped-up Silicone makes an excellent substitute for buying fillers.

Silicone molds/ masks/etc.

More and more people are getting into silicone crafts. I’ve seen countless videos of people using Silicone to make molds for resin objects.

Many cosplayers use silicone components in costumes or masks. If you or anyone you know make things using Silicone, old Silicone, finely ground, can be used to save on fresh Silicone.

To do this, simply cut up your silicone device. Next, run that Silicone through a meat grinder. If it’s not sufficiently pulverized, you can run it through the meat grinder again. Mix the pulverized Silicone into your fresh batch of liquid Silicone. You can add about 20 percent of your total volume as the pulverized Silicone without any adverse effects. This can save you a ton of money in the long run, especially if you make a lot of things.

Other Options for old sex toys.

Finally there is always the repair option for worn sex toys. Sil Poxy is available on Amazon. Its basicly silicone glue. We use the Sil Poxy in our shop to repair devices that don’t come out of the molds properly. But, If the only reason you plan to throw an old device away is because of damage, fix it! Sil Poxy is a one-part application and can easily be applied to rips and tears to make a device like new. Additionally, It is thick enough to be used as filler. If your device won’t seem to come clean, you can try some of the methods listed here.

We live in a time where most people are aware of how much destruction we have done to the environment.  And a handful of people actively try to control their impact. I grew up watching Captain Planet, but sadly there are no superheroes cleaning up garbage and making people use resources more responsibly. It is up to us as individuals to be more environmentally conscious. The growing global trash problem won’t fix itself. Please leave us a comment if you know of any other ways of recycling silicone sex toys.
