Sexiest Monsters of Dungeons and Dragons

Today is March 4th.  One of the most unknown, undercelebrated holidays in America happens today.  Of course I’m talking about Game Master Appreciation Day.  This is the day we celebrate and thank all those GMs and DMs out there who work hard to build worlds and stories that the rest of us can be a part of.  As a tribute to the GMs, here’s my top ten list of the sexiest monsters of Dungeons and Dragons.

Harpy

In mythology, a harpy is a wind spirit that embodies the destructive nature and power of the winds.  They possess the body of a woman, and wings like a bird.  Harpies are generally depicted in fan art and other mediums as extremely attractive.  Likewise, in D&D, harpies sing to charm humans and giants.  Harpies can be very dangerous, luring their charmed victims into lava pits, rivers, off cliffs, etc.  Harpies have been featured in many different fantasy-based games, including Baulders Gate 3, Magic the Gathering, and Yu-Gi-Oh.

Banshee

In Irish folklore, a Banshee is a “woman of the fairy mound.” they are messengers that bring news of a family member’s death, usually in the form of screaming or shrieking.  Banshees are generally described as short, old women.  However, In D&D, Banshees are female elven spirits that wear tattered wispy rags.  However, looking at various fan art sites, it would seem that many people agree that Banshees can be sexy.  Their beauty tends to a creepy, somewhat gutter punk sort of hot, making them one of the sexiest monsters in Dungeons and Dragons. Though in some instances, they are depicted as old hags.  Like the Harpy, Banshees have been featured in countless other games, including SMITE, the Warcraft series, and Magic the gathering.

Mind Flayer

Mind Flayers seem to be a Dungeons and Dragons original.  Debuting in 1974, they were described as a humanoid monster with four tentacles by their mouth.  These tentacles penetrate into their victims and pull out their brains for consumption.  They are said to live in dark, damp areas and caverns.  Despite how terrifying as all of this sounds, something about a sentient monster with tentacles around her mouth is incredibly sexy.  There are many great works of fan art out there showing how hot a mind flayer can be.  Mind Flayers have been seen in various games, books, and shows but most notably as the antagonist in Stranger Things.

Marilith

Mariliths are extremely intelligent, high-ranking demons.  They possess compelling skills, making them very proficient killers and strategists.  Their bodies are a combination of humanoid and serpent.  They are portrayed as incredibly attractive women with six arms and snake eyes.  Below the waist their body is that of a giant, muscular snake.  According the Dungeons and Dragons monster manual, Mariliths like to flaunt their features and often wear only jewelry on their torsos and arms.  Their scaly snake bodies are usually green or brown but can be a wide range of colors. All of these features combined make them one of the sexiest monsters of Dungeons and Dragons.  Mariliths, like most of the monsters on this list, make an appearance in other games like Final Fantasy and Magic the Gathering.

Dryad

Dryads originate in Greek mythology.  The name Dryad used to be specific to the tree spirits that inhabited oak trees but has become synonymous with any and all tree spirits.  They are sometimes depicted as being sentient trees.  Of which, the strangest instance I can recall is Harold in Fallout 3.  While Harold was not actually a Dryad, he defiantly fit the bill of sentient tree.  In most cases, Dryads are human tree hybrids, and how much humanoid to how much tree varies wildly.  In the Dungeons and Dragons monster manual, Dryads are described as magical, feminine creatures that protect the woodlands.  They have a wide range of skills, including talking to plants and animals.  You can find Dryads in dozens of works of fiction, games, and even a few movies.

Medusa

In mythology, Medusa is the only monster of the underworld that was represented as a beautiful woman.  Her most recognizable feature is the snakes that grow out of her scalp.  In some works, Medusa has the lower body of a snake similar to a Marilith.  In Dungeons and Dragons, Medusa has a slender and attractive human body.  she is a powerful being that can turn other creatures to stone with her gaze.  Medusas can be a formidable foe and have a wide range of balanced attacks.  But that doesn’t degrade her allure.  Searching the internet again, it’s apparent that many artists out there agree that Medusa is one of the sexiest monsters in Dungeons and Dragons. medusas are used in too many movies, tv shows, novels, and games count.

Drider

Basically, the Drider is a twisted version of a centaur.  Only instead of having the lower body of a horse, they possess the lower body of a spider.  According to Dungeons and Dragons lore, a Drider is a Drow who was magically turned into a Drider.  In most cases, this transformation took place as a type of punishment.  This process is however noted to be painful.

Driders are potent monsters but tend to be sneaky and cunning.  They possess all the knowledge and skill of the Drow, plus all the best features of a spider.  Consequently, Driders tend to be ambush hunters, hiding in the dark and waiting for prey.  As awful as they sound, they can be beautiful creatures as well.  Driders have been featured in several video games, including most of the Baulders Gate series and most of the Dungeons and Dragons PC games.  They have also appeared in several novels.

Succubus

The concept of a succubus dates back so far it’s hard to pin down an origin.  In the early years of Christianity, it was believed that a man’s soul was in a very literal way in his semen.  It was thought that when a man ejaculated, he was giving up part of his soul.  The Succubus, was said to be the cause of nocturnal emissions.  Usually described as a demon that would visit men at night to steal their souls.  In most traditions, they are described as young, beautiful, women or half demons.  In Dungeons and Dragons, the Succubus charms their victim and uses them for their own agenda.  Fanart for Succubus is extremely common.  So is their use in other mediums.  From movies, games, and books, they all share the sexual nature and attractiveness that one would expect from such a creature.

Tiefling

Early editions of Dungeons and Dragons described Tieflings as fiendish, but more of a half fiends.  Later editions would clarify Tieflings as decedents of humans who made a deal with the devil to make themselves more powerful.  All Tieflings have humanoid bodies, large thick horns, and tails 4 to 5 feet in length.  They have pointy teeth, and their eyes are generally solid in color.  Tieflings can have any alignment and are a playable character race.  Like most of the creatures on this list, Tieflings have made several appearances in other media.  Most notably, the Brimstone Angels books by Erin M Evans, where a Tiefling is the main character.

Yuan-Ti

The Yuan-Ti is another snake/human mash-up that comes in a wide range of flavors.  There are Purebloods that are mostly human with a few snake-like features.  At the other end of the scale, abominations are more snake than human.  A Yuan-Ti can sit anywhere in that broad range.  Some have a snake-like lower body, some have legs.  Some have scales, some have skin.  Possibilities are pretty endless when it comes to variation.  In their society, the abominations are the high-ranking citizens.  Basically, Yuan-Ti is an intelligent race that prefers to live in jungles.  Most of them worship demons, with Sseth being most common.  Yuan-Ti are featured in the House of Serpents trilogy of novels by Lisa Smedman.  They show up in several popular games, including the Icewind Dale series, the Neverwinter series, and other notable games.
